Welcome to Dragon Class
Dragons, Year 5 and 6 are the oldest class in the school. We are taught by Mr Wright and HLTA Mrs Baker. As the oldest children in North Cadbury C of E Primary School, we look to lead by example and demonstrate to the other children how we learn through collaboration. We enjoy learning a creative curriculum which gives us the skills we will need in the future world. We help others to learn through our responsibilities, such as; being play leaders, playground monitors, collective worship helpers, digital leaders and many more. Our curriculum is creative in that as well as following the National Curriculum for England our learning is connected and provides lots of links between subject areas. We follow a two year rolling cycle, so one year we focus more on Year 5 topics and the next Year 6 topics. Our Maths topics are for each of our independent year groups and we follow what is called a ‘Mastery’ approach to learning. We are striving to become independently learners as we try to embed ‘Growth Mindset’ approaches to learning. This year, 2017/8 we are having a big promotion of values in our school and throughout the year we are focusing on the different core values. The Spring Term value is ‘Determination’. Every child plays a string instrument with whole class teaching from Mr Gilbert, a visiting music teacher. We celebrate our talents with many concerts and performances throughout the year. Music helps us with our confidence and our creativity, allowing us to express ourselves. Sport is a big thing for Dragon Class. We have lots of opportunity to take part in sporting activities. From tournaments against local schools, achieving entry area finals in Football, and many opportunities besides these; we are very lucky indeed. This Spring Term alone will see us taking part in Cyclocross (one of only 6 schools in Somerset to receive special training from British Cycling), Cricket Coaching with a professional coach and a running a mile a day challenge which will start later in the Spring Term. One of the highlights of the year was our residential. In 2016/7 we were lucky enough to spend four days in London. This year, back in the Autumn Term we went to Bude, Cornwall for an extremely memorable week long residential visit.
