Global Citizenship

Global Citizenship at North Cadbury C of E Primary links in with our Christian & British Values. It is the starting point for encouraging our children to develop their knowledge, skills and values, so that they are better able to engage in the world we live in, and believe that every single one of us can make a difference.

We rarely focus on Global Citizenship as an additional subject - it's a framework for learning, a desire to broaden our knowledge and a way of reaching beyond our school to the wider community.

We agree wholeheartedly with Oxfam who state that Global citizenship helps young people to:

  • Build their own understanding of world events.
  • Think about their values and what's important to them.
  • Take learning into the real world.
  • Challenge ignorance and intolerance.
  • Get involved in their local, national and global communities.
  • Develop an argument and voice their opinions.
  • See that they have power to act and influence the world around them.

Global Citizenship also inspires and informs teachers and parents, but ultimately it is this next generation who will create and mould a better more connected world than the one we currently inhabit, and through Global Citizenship we can show our children that they do have a voice.

The world is constantly changing, yet we have very clearly seen throughout the Coronavirus pandemic that we are all inextricably linked, and it is the duty of us all to make a positive difference to ensure that the world our children inhabit is fairer, safer and more secure for everyone.

This is the very beginning of our journey, but please do enjoy sharing our burgeoning links.
