We strongly believe that everyone has the capacity to make a positive difference in the world. Rooted in our Christian vision, "To be the best we can be," we encourage our community to recognise the needs of others, speak up for what is right and take action to create positive change.

We believe courageous advocacy begins when we understand that all voices matter and that even small actions can have a significant impact. Inspired by our vision, "Faith can move mountains" (Matthew 17:20), we encourage one another to approach challenges with courage, compassion and determination.

Our understanding of courageous advocacy is underpinned by the biblical call:

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."

Belonging, Leadership and Community

At North Cadbury Church of England Primary School, we believe that every child should experience a strong sense of belonging and understand that they can make a positive difference in the world around them. Inspired by our Christian vision, "To be the best we can be," and Jesus' teaching that "faith can move mountains" (Matthew 17:20), we encourage our pupils to become active members of their local, national and global communities.

We believe that belonging brings responsibility. As part of a school, village, country and global community, we are called to care for one another and for the world we share. Through meaningful opportunities to serve, lead and contribute, our children learn that their actions, however small, can create positive change.

Pupil Leadership and Student Voice

At North Cadbury, leadership is not something that happens only when children are older; it is something we nurture from the earliest years. We encourage pupils to identify areas of school life that matter deeply to them and to consider how they can use their gifts and passions to support others.

Each year, children are invited to apply for leadership positions, outlining why the role is important to them, what they hope to achieve and how they will make a difference within our school community. This process helps children develop confidence, responsibility, advocacy skills and a commitment to service.

Our pupil leadership roles include:

• Eco Leaders – championing sustainability, environmental stewardship and care for God's creation.

• Academic Champions – promoting a love of learning, curiosity and aspiration across the school.

• Friendship and Care Leaders – supporting wellbeing, inclusion, kindness and positive relationships.

• Library Enthusiasts – fostering a love of reading and helping others discover the joy of books.

• Student Mentors – offering support, encouragement and guidance to younger pupils and peers.

These roles provide meaningful opportunities for children to lead change, represent the views of others and contribute to the flourishing of our whole school community.

Serving Our Community

We actively encourage children to engage with local, national and global causes, helping them to develop compassion, empathy and an understanding of social responsibility.

Through partnerships and charitable initiatives, our pupils support causes that are meaningful to our school community, including:

• School in a Bag

• The Children's Society

• Children in Need

• Local food banks

• The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

• Environmental and conservation projects within our local area

Caring for God's World

As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, pupils work closely with our Eco Leaders and community partners to care for the natural world.

Examples include:

• Planting hedges in partnership with the Forestry Commission to encourage British wildlife.

• Pollination workshops and ecology projects.

• Caring for local green spaces and community areas.

• Environmental projects supported by local businesses, including The Newt.

• School-based sustainability initiatives led by pupils.

These experiences help children understand their responsibility to care for creation and encourage them to become thoughtful custodians of the environment.

Working Alongside Our Community

How Do We Measure the Impact?

At North Cadbury, we believe that courageous advocacy, leadership and service should lead to meaningful change for both individuals and the wider community. We regularly evaluate the impact of our work to ensure that our Christian vision continues to inspire pupils to flourish and make a positive difference.

We measure impact through:

Pupil Voice

We regularly gather feedback from children through surveys, pupil discussions, leadership meetings and reflection opportunities. This helps us understand how children view their roles, the difference they are making and how they are developing as leaders and advocates.

Leadership Outcomes

Our pupil leaders set goals for their areas of responsibility and review their progress throughout the year. They evaluate the impact of initiatives, share successes and identify future priorities.

Community Feedback

We seek feedback from families, community partners, parish members, charities and local organisations who work alongside us. Their views help us understand how our pupils contribute positively to the wider community.
