House Teams

Team Captains

At North Cadbury, the election of our Team Captains is a significant milestone in our student leadership journey and an important opportunity for children to experience democracy in action. Each year, Year 6 pupils who wish to represent their House Team put themselves forward as candidates, preparing and delivering campaign speeches to their fellow team members. In these speeches, they explain why the role is important to them, the qualities they would bring to the position, what they hope to achieve as Team Captain, and how they believe they can make a positive difference to school life.

The election process encourages pupils to develop confidence, leadership, public speaking and advocacy skills. Standing for election requires courage, commitment and a genuine desire to serve others. Candidates share examples of how they have already contributed to the school community and demonstrate how they are ready to take the next step in leadership. Through this process, pupils learn that leadership is about responsibility, service and representing the views and interests of their peers.

Voting provides all children with a meaningful experience of democratic participation and reinforces key British Values, including democracy, mutual respect and individual liberty. It also plays an important role in developing courageous advocacy, empowering pupils to speak up for the things they believe in and to champion positive change within our school community.

For many Year 6 pupils, becoming a Team Captain is a highly valued achievement. As they prepare for the transition to secondary school, the role offers a fitting culmination of their time at North Cadbury, providing an opportunity to demonstrate the leadership qualities, character, values and sense of responsibility they have developed throughout their primary education. It represents the pinnacle of our student leadership programme and celebrates the growth of confident, compassionate young people who are ready to make a difference both within school and beyond.

Our House Teams

From the moment children join North Cadbury, they are welcomed into one of our House Teams and remain a valued member of that team throughout their time with us. Siblings and families are automatically assigned to the same House, helping to foster a strong sense of belonging and shared identity. Children enjoy working collaboratively across year groups, creating opportunities for older and younger pupils to support, encourage and learn from one another. This spirit of teamwork is particularly evident during Sports Day and our many House competitions, where pupils proudly represent their team and celebrate each other's successes.

Throughout the year, children earn House Points through their everyday contributions to school life, whether by demonstrating dedication in their learning, showing kindness and friendship towards others, displaying resilience, or living out our school values. In addition, pupils have the opportunity to earn the highly coveted Golden Team Points, worth an impressive 25 points each, for exceptional achievements and contributions. Our Team Captains and Vice Captains take responsibility for collecting and collating scores each week before announcing the latest standings during collective worship. The friendly competition generates great excitement across the school, culminating in the annual awarding of the House Cup to the team with the highest total. Alongside the prestigious title of House Champions, the winning team enjoys a special end-of-year reward in recognition of their collective effort, commitment and team spirit.
